Introducing the Young Family

I have always wanted to be a writer and I am a scrapbook fanatic so I decided I would start a blog. That's one way to force myself to write every day. One day before I die I plan to write a novel. Until then this blog will have to do. Nothing much is going on in my life right now. Just work and taking Aaliyah to school and to the mall and over to a friends house. You get the picture. I am Aaliyah's official chauffer. Okay since going to school to be a court reporter my spelling also stinks. Anyway just wanted to say hello and let you know what is going on in my life right now. Take care and God Bless! Mama Young

Merry Christmas 2011

This year I decided it was time for us to do a family portrait. The last time we took pictures I decided not to be in the photos because I didn't like the way I looked. This year I decided although I have gained some weight I didn't care. I was going to embrace the moment and enjoy the photo session with my children. I think the pictures are beautiful. What do you think?

My Friend Sandra

Sandra and I have been friends for over 25 years. I met her at Northeastern University when we were taking classes to get a paralegal certificate and we have been friends ever since. People in our class thought we knew each other for years when in reality we had just met. She has been there for me through thick and thin and is more like a sister than a friend. Like Anne of Green Gables said about her friend Diana she is my kindred spirit. I couldn't have a things and people I love page without putting her on it. To my dear friend Sandra I love you and thank God for bringing you into my life.

Fireworks

Aaliyah and I did a road trip for the 4th of July. My dearest friend in the world invited me to her son and daughter-in-law's baby shower on the 3rd so I decided to go. Besides I have been home for most of the summer bored senseless. It was time to get out of Denver or Dodge take you pick. The funny thing is I had just had a conversation with Jessica about her cousin who is a travel agent so I called her and asked her to hook me up. She did all the work and got me really great deals on a rental car and hotels. I also renewed my AAA membership so I got a trip tic and also get discounts on my rental and hotels. It was a 26 hour drive so we stopped twice. The first night we stopped in Kansas City and stayed in Nashville on the second night. We finally arrived in Goose Creek, South Carolina on Saturday about an hour before the shower started. I was so happy to see Sandra and her family. I even got to see Gena who use to do Kristina's hair when she was younger. Toya who is Jordan's wife was a sweet as she could be. You are a lucky man Jordan. I can't believe Jordan is now married and a Dad. He was around 3 or 4 years old when I met Sandra. Where did the time go? We just had a wonderful time fellowshipping with one another. I was so sad when it was time to head back home on Tuesday. I pray that we will be able to get together soon because there is nothing like family and friends. Love you!

Me and my girl

I got laid off about a month ago and was thinking okay God I know you are going to work this out for my good. Well He has because it has given me an opportunity to really spend time with Aaliyah and get to know the beautiful young lady that she is becoming. We have played games, watched movies, gone to the mall and yes argued but through it all I have really enjoyed the time spent with her. She even went to book club with me the other day and decided to read the book that we are going to discuss for next month. It has been peaceful, and calm and oh so lovely. I am falling in love with my little girl all over again. Thank you God for this time with her. In just four more years she will be off to college and I will be alone for the first time in my life. No husband no little girl just me. I am going to enjoy every minute that I have with her. Until next time....

Owl's Debutante Ball

Last night Aaliyah and I attended the Owl's Debutante Ball as the guest of Jevard and Tshura Hitch. This was our first time attending the Ball and I was interested to see how the girl's presentation differed from the Beautillion that Jack and Jill does. It was lovely and elegant. Two of the girl's presented were Jack and Jill member's. Taylor Strickland and Maya Aggen you represented Jack and Jill well. I look forward to the day when Aaliyah is a Deb. That day is not too far away because Aaliyah will be a freshman in high school this coming fall. Where did the time go?

In Memoriam

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This was my husband's favorite poem and funny because it describes him so perfectly. He did take the road less travelled and because of it he made a difference in so many people's lives. It is so hard for me to even to describe to someone how amazing he was. He was amazing. How to explain to people who have never met him what he was like is difficult. He had the most amazing smile I have ever seen. I call it a million dollar smile. Aaliyah has that same smile. He had the most beautiful 1st Tenor voice I have ever heard. If I close my eyes now I can hear him singing "It's a Gift to Be Simple" in chapel at All Saint's with his students. He was so intelligent it was scary. We he graduated from Governor Dummer Academy now the Governor's Academy he was awarded the highest honor the Morse Flag. He sat on many boards like the Desert Botanical Gardens, Phoenix Country Day School, Secondary School Admission Testing Board, Brookwood School, Black Board of Directors Project, and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. He was a Gamma Mu Boule.

He was my husband for 27 years. He took care of me like no one else. He did all the cooking, he paid the bills, he got me everything I wanted on my long christmas list. Lol! He was a gentleman. When we were dating he pursued me relentlessly. He loved me passionately like no one else has. He was the best father ever. He loved his children and made sure they got whatever they needed. Eddie and Kristina attended the best private schools. St Mark's School of Texas, Hockaday, Brookwood, The Governor's Academy, and Phoenix Country Day School. Aaliyah attended Desert View and All Saint's. Eddie and Kristina both attended Pomona College and were able to study abroad their junior year's. Eddie went to Edinburgh, Scotland and Kristina to Athens, Greece. Ballet lessons, music lessons, ice skating, whatever they wanted to do he made sure they did it.

Life has not been the same since you left. If I could just see you one more time and tell how much I appreciate everything you did for our family I would be so happy. I just pray that you are in heaven looking down on us and that you are cheering us on waiting anxiously for the day when we are all reunited. Love you Papa Bear. Your wife

Valentine's Day

My babies My loves.
Valentine's Day is for couples but what do you do when you don't have a partner or significant other? Well since my husband passed I have decided to make this day special for my children. I give them cards and buy them gifts to make them feel special and loved. I try to take the focus off me and really offer my heart to them. After all they are my one and only Valentine's. Sometimes I do feel sad and depressed because I am not getting those dozen yellow roses or the perfume I love from the man I love but I try to keep it moving so I don't have much time to wallow in my being alone. This weekend is jam packed with activities like a wine tasting and going to Boulder with my children and their friends. Miss Aaliyah wants to go see Justin Bieber but I don't know if I can sit through that. Lol! Anyway I plan to have a good time and look good doing it. Lol! Happy Valentine's Day to my family, friends, and loved one's. I pray that someone will give you their unconditional love on that day and every day. God Bless!

We are Family Christmas 2010

I was so thankful that my mother was able to be here to celebrate Christmas with us this year. Even though she can be demanding and rude at times I was glad she was here. I don't know maybe all Mom's boss their grown kids around and forget to say please and thank you. I pray I don't treat my kids that way. Lol! Anyway Christmas is a joyous time for us because it is also Kristina's and Aaliyah's birthday. Aaliyah's birthday is on the 24th and Kristina's is the 26th. One day I will have to share how that happened. The Denver chapter of Jack and Jill Beautillion is also in December as well as many other events and activities that we participate in. My husband loved Christmas and it is at this time of year that his presence is missed greatly. He always made sure that everyone got what they wanted for Christmas and that the girl's did not feel cheated because their birthday's were right around Christmas. We always celebrated their birthday's and they always got their gifts wrapped in birthday paper not Christmas paper. There was always a birthday cake and sometimes a birthday party. Christmas was always a fun time for us. I have tried to continue that tradition in his honor and I hope my children think we had a wonderful celebration this year. For me it is all about love and all about my family. I love them dearly and am so happy to be their Mom, daughter, sister, and friend. Merry Christmas and I hope you have a happy and blessed New Year. This is the year of double portion. I'm getting mine and I pray you get yours too!
